Supporting our Children – The Hive
We want all our children to ‘be ready, be safe, be respectful’. We have a range of tools to help support us achieving this. They include accessing additional activities, some of which are delivered in ’The Hive’.
What is the Hive?
Our approach to inclusive working has developed over the last ten years. Our professional development activities seek to provide staff who work with children and young people with the knowledge, skills and tools to optimise social and emotional development. We have made use of msome of the tools in the Thrive approach. Thrive is committed to supporting and encouraging the development of confident, curious, creative and capable children and young people who are open to learning and better equipped to deal with life’s ups and downs.
We also use structured programs such as ‘Drawing and Talking’ and work with a number of partners, such as ‘HeadStart’ to work towards giving every child a voice. We are proud to be a school where children and all the grown-ups who care for them, thrive together. Our behaviour policy, school environment and curriculum all have Thrive at the very heart.
How does it work?
Our approach draws on the latest research into brain science, child development theory and attachment theory. It helps us to understand how the brain develops, and how parents, teachers and other professionals can best support this development by providing the best experiences for the children at each stage. Parents and carers who would like to know more about the approach are welcome to visit school to meet with staff.
Pupils may work in The Hive with one of our staff, or be supported in their classroom. Activities may be planned individually, or delivered to groups. Reference will be made to any additional plans a child may have, for example for Behaviour or additional needs.
